House update

We have a lot to report! This past Monday, our concrete slab was poured. By Thursday evening, the first floor was framed and mostly closed in and they had frames ready to go for the upper level. I imagine on Sunday the second floor will be framed as well. We have had so much fun watching the progress. Monday, I took the kids out to our house to hopefully catch the concrete truck. Lucky for us, we did. Although we didn't actually see them poor we did have fun watching all of the other events taking place. Today we met with the builder and chose our interior features. The only other major thing we have to do, besides moving in, is to meet with the electrician.

This is what we found as we drove up to our house.

The truck is being cleaned up and getting ready to leave.
Notice how high the mud is on the tires.

Because of the deep mud, another truck had to come
pull this guy out. That was a sight to see!!

The kids were very intensely watching this happening.
I was holding Luke, who had a death grip on me.
Seeing the trucks up close was a bit much for him.
They are really big when you are standing outside
watching rather from inside the car.

Heave....ho! And out of the mud he goes!

Now we can watch the "workers" as the kids call them,
smooth out the concrete. Most of the men were Amish.
They are easily distinguished by their clothing.
Smoothing concrete looks like exhausting work!

A few days later...this is what we found as we drove up
to the house. Now I don't feel weird calling it a house!

This will be our family room or great room.

This is the kitchen nook. It is a large space, but
my picture doesn't show the entire area.
This is the kitchen, with a corner pantry.

Our stairs...I know that's obvious.
Upstairs, looking at what will be the play room/spare bedroom.

Looking towards the boys' room.

Looking at the master bedroom.

A side view of the house.

This wasn't the most exciting post, but I am very thankful and happy that we can document the process as it happens. Until next time....

  1. I can't believe how quickly they are able to put it together. I am excited to hear about the colors you picked out.
