Reading on the roof

Our school district participates in a program called Accelerated Reader . The students are encouraged to read as many books as they can to earn points. They have to take a comprehension test over each book to earn the points. Some books are worth .5 pt and others are worth 40pts, depending on the reading level and length of the book. Well if you know Cari, you know her true passion in life is reading. The kid reads faster than most adults and has read more books than many of us, including myself. When she figured out what this program was all about, she had a goal in mind. She wanted to be the top reader of her school and the district. She worked extremely hard at achieving this goal. Not only did she reach her goal, she blew it out of the water! The previous school record for AR points was in the 700's. She earned 1226, shattering the record by 500 points. I cannot describe her sheer excitement. For her reward she got to accompany the principal on the roof for the reading of a story, eat a popsicle and receive her award in front of the entire school watching from below.
