Visiting the zoo with 4 little monkeys and 1 grandma monkey

The zoo membership has been one of our best investments this summer. The kids and I have made it there many, many times. In fact we are learning where the animals "typically" hang out or when we are more likely to see some action. This time my parents accompanied us to the zoo and we didn't arrive until 4pm. The zoo closes at 5, but they let you linger around until 6. We had the opportunity to see a new side of the animals. We had a great time! I'm convinced, though, it was harder to keep track of my mother than all 4 kids put together!

We are entering the African Journey.
The mist gives it a surreal feeling.
The kids all pile in the safari jeep.
Who's leading the way on this expedition?
The pelicans were up close
and personal on this visit.
Just before I snapped this picture, the
mongoose was busy digging a hole.
Luke tried to dig a hole just like the
mongoose, but he didn't have much luck. Just the girls!
Now everyone else! Can you see
everyone crammed in there?
My mom stopped at every exhibit and wanted to know
which animals were "married". She even stopped a zoo
keeper to ask if the monkeys were married. She wasn't
satisfied leaving the zoo unless she knew all the animals
were properly "married". Oh, how I love my mom!
If you look closely, you can see a momma duck leading
her babies through the grass towards some water. It
reminded me of me and my little ducklings.
Leaving the African Journey
By the time we made it through the Indonesian
Rain Forest it was close to 6 and we were close
to being kicked out. Most of the animals were
put away, but we lucked out and finally got to
see the tiger. He is usually hiding during the day
so we had not seen him yet this summer. Well he
knew it was feeding time and bedtime. He was
pacing in front of the holding pin which is right by
the viewing window. The tiger was particularly
interested in Nathaniel, who is our little tiger. He
was an astounding animal to watch!
And my mom finally found her house!
We had an exciting adventure at the zoo,
now its time to head back to our zoo!
