Our action packed 5 year old

About two weeks ago (Nov. 23), Nathaniel turned 5. I am behind with this post, but better late than never. As most of you know, Nathaniel is our action-packed charmer of the bunch. He is incredibly intense, but sweet as pie. He can have just about any lady wrapped around his little finger in a matter of minutes. He is very generous, but wants to know you appreciate his generosity. He is extremely energetic and full of life. He takes every day head on with a conquer the world approach.

I had high hopes of getting some great pictures on this wonderful day, but I found that we were hopping from one activity to another. We began the day with a special trip to Barnes and Nobles, where we enjoyed a "kid coffee" (strawberries and creme frappuccino). Then Nathaniel was allowed to pick out a book. We had fun sipping on our coffees and looking at all the wonderful books. For our family, the book store is just as enticing as the toy store. Later that afternoon we made the birthday cookie cake, but waited for dad to come home to do the honors of decorating it. Nathaniel received some birthday packages in the mail, finding some cool new toys sent his way. In all the excitement I missed picture taking opportunities. Nathaniel had also decided he wanted tortillas for dinner. I thought I would try to make homemade tortillas since we can't find good flour tortillas here in Fort Wayne. So needless to say I spent some time rolling dough. But, we all enjoyed and had a great family dinner. Dad came home with a couple surprises as well. He picked up some little LED flashlights, which he turned in to homemade light sabers. He also bought Nathaniel his own, REAL, hammer. Nathaniel couldn't contain his excitement. He couldn't stop talking about how cool dad was and repeated a dozen times, to whoever was in an ear shot, that dad actually made a light saber.

Trying out his new hammer!

Birthday cookie time!
By the way...hats off to all you parents out there who actually have a real birthday party. We keep birthdays as family days. However, at the end of the day we usually end up with a melt down because of all the fun we've had, presents, extra attention, and don't forget the cake and all the extra sugar included. I can't imagine adding a dozen other little kids running around. I tip my hat to all you brave souls. :)

Our little "hohawk" dude
PS: If you missed out on the "hohawk" post I would highly recommend going back to read it. You will get a good laugh!
